Maria Jose Balvanera (MJB) is a visual artist born in Mexico City (1991) and trained in Los Angeles, California. Her practice focuses on exploring identity and memory through “tablescapes” that capture the essence of her everyday life in Mexico. Through an aesthetic of defined lines and vibrant colors, MJB transforms ordinary objects—flowers, food, and household items—into contemporary altars that celebrate the intersection between the domestic and the spiritual. 
 Her work not only documents the visual environment of her home in Mexico, but also seeks to find the sacred in the commonplace, using color as a language of celebration and resistance to the routine and speed of today's world. Her work acts as a visual bridge between the two cultures that have influenced her practice, intertwining her roots with her present and inviting the viewer to find magic in the details of everyday life.
